The A.G.M. of the C.I.E. Group Employees Social and Welfare Association took place in the Board Room Connolly Station on the Tuesday April 15th at 18.00 hrs.

WHAT WE DO
The main work undertaken by the Association consists of visiting employees and retired employees who are ill at home or in Hospitals, Sanatoria and Nursing Homes where we distribute comforts such as fruit and chocolates etc.
In 2019 visitations to Hospitals etc became problematic due to norovirus, also known as the winter vomiting bug. In 2020 hospital and nursing home visitations ceased altogether due to Covid 19.
Mobility devices have been provided to people who could not otherwise afford them, consequently improving their quality of life.
Each year several hundred pensioners and their spouses / carers are treated to a day’s outing with refreshments and entertainment.
Grants are given to employees in need and to deserving causes.

The CIÉ Group Employees’ Social and Welfare Association is a Registered Charity and was founded over seventy years ago in 1947 by a small group of CIÉ employees, who saw the necessity for helping fellow workers who had become ill or had fallen on hard times.
The CIÉ Group Employees’ Social and Welfare Association is the oldest voluntary group within the CIÉ group of companies.
Initially, the Association obtained income by asking staff to contribute to the “Welfare Collection Boxes” each payday.
Later, with the support of the Company, it became possible to arrange deductions through the payroll.
While both active and retired employee contributions are the main source of income, individual donations supplement the Association's income.
